Let Us Not Give Up Meeting Together
By Chad Zoll
The title of this article is actually part of a verse of the Bible. Hebrews 10:25 (NIV) states, “Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” The writer of Hebrews gives us two commands that are linked… 1. Meet together, and 2. Encourage each other. These commands are linked in that when we meet together we are to encourage each other.

Sunday morning worship is structured for us to come together to worship the Lord. However, it isn't always easy to listen to each other and encourage each other through individual interaction. Thus, small group Bible Study is a great alternative for a small group of people to come together and encourage each other and share what the Lord has been teaching them.

Thankfully, we do have this opportunity through our Wednesday evening Bible studies. We have three Bible Studies going on at FBC. Here is a little description of each:

1. ALPHA Course is an introduction to Christianity doctrine. We answer questions like: why is the Bible important? Who is Jesus? Is Christianity untrue, boring, or irrelevant? It is structured by watching a video presentation and then discussing the video through questions. Often these questions are open ended and some may bring questions from their own faith background.

(The Alpha couurse has been cancelled for this session.)

2. Young Adult Bible Study will be looking at the Book of James. The Book of James tends to talk about how faith and action relate to each other. With faith and action in mind, this group of college age adults will be able to do service projects throughout the term.

3. Seriously John is the Adult Bible study this Fall. This group will be studying the Gospel of John and take a look at John's emphasis words and phrases that don't necessarily appear in the other gospels.

Both should be great studies, and I hope you will be able to join one of these. The format of the fall Bible study series is that we will start off with a light meal at 6:15pm and then break into our studies after a time of prayer at 7pm. If you can't make it to the meal, come out to the Studies anyway. It is a great time and an opportunity to encourage one another as we look to our guide, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The series started with a picnic Wednesday August 27

Saturday Prayer and Praise

Sister Lula Mae Butler organized The Third Saturday Prayer and Praise Ministry. It meets the third Saturday of each month at 1:00 PM. On Saturday, September 20, 2008, we will celebrate our twelfth anniversary.

Guest speakers and singers are regularly featured and there is always a nice meal afterwards.

Come and be blessed!
