It’s graduation time.
The 2021 high school students have experienced a lot of things: distance learning; being forced to wear masks; shorten or cancel sports seasons, musicals and concerts; and a lot of uncertainty. They had to distance themselves from their friends and teachers for months.
Even through it all, they did what was necessary to make it to the end of the school year.
To celebrate the 2021 class, we’re posting graduate lists from over 60 schools in central New York City.
We will point out who is the promotion major and the salutatorian (or in some cases alternates) and give them the opportunity to share some thoughts on school, the pandemic, family and life. The major of promotion and the salutatorian of this school are below the list of graduates.
The Post-Standard will publish a high school graduation souvenir section on Sunday, June 28. If you wish, you can place a congratulatory announcement for a graduate you wish to honor in the section. The section will include lists of 2021 graduates from Onondaga County schools, Q&A with each school’s promotion major and Salvatorian, and more. Companies also have the option of advertising in the diploma section. You can reach us at this email and we will get back to you.
The Syracuse Central Institute of Technology Senior Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 24.

Name: Michel Vu
Parents: Phillip Vu and Van Ho
My projects for the next few years: I plan to go to Cornell University for a pre-medical course with a specialization in biochemistry.
My career plans: I want to become an anesthesiologist.
The highlight of my last year: The highlight of my last year was being accepted into the university of my dreams.
The person who inspired me the most: My best friend inspired me the most because she was always there for me and gave me the support I never thought I needed. She also taught me to have fun while being productive.
What I do to relax or unwind: I like to take car rides and relax with my best friend. One extracurricular activity that I really enjoy is playing the trumpet, especially jazz tunes.
The word or phrase that best describes my personality: Relaxed
My advice to our promotion: It’s okay to lose some of your friends along the way. We are still so young and have so many years ahead of us to meet new people.
The best part about social distancing: I was able to focus more on myself and eliminate the negativity that is in my life.
The biggest impact of the pandemic on my last year: This pandemic has taught me that independence is an essential life skill that will always come in handy.
The only thing I hope to accomplish in my life: I hope to buy a house for my parents in the future and give back to the community by donating to charity.
Other thoughts: Without my best friend, I don’t know how far I would go in life. She’s one of the best if not the best thing that has ever happened to me and she deserves so much appreciation and recognition.

Name: Quyen Pham
Parents: Duong loan
My projects for the next few years: I plan to study biochemistry at Syracuse University.
My career plans: I plan to go to medical school after college and become a cardiothoracic surgeon.
The highlight of my last year: The highlight of my last year has to be graduation as I haven’t seen all my classmates in one place since first year.
The person who inspired me the most: My best friend encourages me the most and still to this day. I used to make excuses for a lot of my procrastination, but seeing her being able to get things done while having responsibilities similar to me encouraged me to strive to be better. If there is a will, there is a way.
What I do to relax or unwind: I think something that helps me relax is painting and shopping. I love art in all its forms, concentration takes me to a different world and allows me to forget reality.
The word or phrase that best describes my personality: Clear and independent
My advice to our promotion: Your journey has just begun, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and venture out. And most importantly, have fun because we’re here for a while, not long.
The best part about social distancing: The best part is that I didn’t have to show up for class in real life, which meant I didn’t have to dress or show up for school. I did not miss these metal detectors either.
The biggest impact of the pandemic on my last year: The biggest impact is missing out on many senior activities and the school club activities I planned to do in my final year. Like the ACS summer program, student council, rocket club or even senior breakfast.
The only thing I hope to accomplish in my life: One thing that I hope to accomplish is to be able to get my doctorate and medical license.
