84-year-old Phyllis June Maggy passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
She was born June 28, 1936 in Dannemora, NY, daughter of the late Philip and Lucy (Rushford) Kennedy. Phyllis was the youngest of five children.
Phyllis graduated from Dannemora HS in 1954. She received a BS in Home Economics from Plattsburgh State University Teachers College in 1958 and later a Certificate in Elementary Education.
Phyllis taught home economics at Ballston Spa Jr / Sr. SH from 1958 to 1959. She then taught grade 1 at Peru Central until 1962, when her first child was born. Phyllis continued as a substitute for the next 10 years at St. Joseph School, Saranac and Dannemora Elementary and HS. She returned to teaching full time in Grade 3 at Dannemora Elementary School when her youngest child, Mark, was in her class! She retired from teaching in December 1995.
On June 25, 1960, Phyllis married the love of her life, Leo Maggy. Phyllis was the beloved mother of four, Michael (Cheryl), Marty (Barb) and Mark (Stacey) all from Plattsburgh and Shelley (Jim) Beaudoin from Malta, NY She was Nana to Allison (Alex), Kyle (Hana ) Maggy, Ethan (Catherine), Emily and Sarah Beaudoin, Mitchell (Brooke) Maggy and Ashley and Matthew Maggy. Nana was eagerly awaiting the birth of her first great-grandchild in July. “Pudy” loved all of her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and all of her great-great-nieces and nephews.
Phyllis enjoyed frequent interactions with her extended family. She was known for her short conversations and “quick hang ups”! All will regret his presence at our celebrations and events.
Phyllis was active in St. Joseph’s Church, the prayer line, the soup committee and the reception committee after the funeral. She has been a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Senior Citizens Club, the NYS Retired Teacher’s Association, and the CVCR. Phyllis enjoyed reading, puzzles and puzzle books, her “CBS programs,” quilting, and swimming at Chazy Lake and the YMCA.
Phyllis and Leo were able to travel after retirement to Montana, Alaska, Florida, Maine (his lobster!), Ireland, Colorado and especially to Hilton Head, SC. They also made “a few” trips to the casino.
Her favorite place on earth was their home on Lake Chazy where the family could live every summer; move in the day after the end of the course and move out the day before the start of the course. It was a wonderful time with all of the aunts, uncles, cousins ​​and families of Chazy Lake. Her children greatly appreciate these special years of freedom and nature by the lake.
Along with her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her siblings, Philip Kennedy, Lucille “This” Haley, Jerry Kennedy and Arlene “Denie” Patnode, as well as her beloved step-brothers, Russell Haley and Francis “Sonny” Patnode. and his nephew, Russell Haley Jr.
There will be no public calling hours.
A Christian funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 12 p.m. in Saint-Joseph de Dannemora church. Burial prayers and burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Phyllis can be made to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Youth Group, St. Joseph’s Catholic Daughters, or the Dannemora Fire Department.
